Prosecutor declines to file charges in Anchorage shooting

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A woman suspected of holding a gun that discharged and killed a man in Anchorage will not be prosecuted.

The Anchorage Daily News reports prosecutors declined to charge 26-year-old Marilyn Tilo-Maiava in the shooting early Tuesday.

She had been held by police on suspicion of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

Anchorage District Attorney John Novak says prosecutors consulted with police and decided that charges Tuesday were not appropriate. He says what happens in the future is another matter.

The name of the man killed has not been released.

Investigators say the man brought a handgun to the apartment, where adults and juveniles were present.

The gun was passed around and handled by multiple people. As the gun was handled my Tilo-Maiava, it fired, striking the man.
